On a Positive Note the Brewers Lost....

Last night's game against the Astros marked the fourth straight loss for the Chicago Cubs. With high hopes for a triumphant return by Zambrano on Tuesday night, fans were once again disappointed. The Cubs lost 9-7 in the 11th, following a two-run homer by Geoff Blum off Kerry Wood.

Here are my thoughts: Overall, an exciting (but still not a good) game. Let’s look at a few positives before we proceed to the obvious negatives of last night’s battle...

The Positives:

The game started off on a positive note, Soriano's solo homerun in the 1st inning. Homeruns also followed by DeRosa, Soto and Edmunds game tying homer in the 7th. Thanks for your hard work Jim, although the Cubs couldn't pull through in extras. At least our hitting is improving; the last 27 hits prior have all been singles. Watching the Astros run to the warning tracks, slam into the ivy and turn up empty handed was like a breath of fresh air.

The Brewers also lost in extra innings, Cubs are still 4.5 games up. (Phew!)

The Negatives:

Apparently big Z didn't get enough rest because he was replaced in the 6th by Howry who failed to perform much better. Zambrano gave up five hits and walked three, before reporting arm soreness. Doctors are examining Zambrano today, pray Cubs fans, the postseason approaches... Cubs fans biggest concern is will Zambrano be well enough to bring the Cubs into the postseason?

I will blog more extensively after tonight's game, which the Cubs are going to win.

My last question to you all is will we make it to 100? My answer is YES. The Cubs are doing better on the road the 2nd half. I'm thinking positive.

OOO man, I don't even know what to say to this post. First of all I'm thinking the Cubs may have a season like the Brew Crew's last year....they were doing great, 1st place in the NLC and then they choked, let Chicago take the lead and let Chi win the division. Is that happening to the Cubs? Now the Cubs have lost 5 in a row this week...that hasn't happened all season. I think we may be seeing choke in progress. Or is it that they were just getting too comfortable and overconfident? My opinion...they won't make it to 100 in the regular season..they only have 22 to more games, which means they can lose 7. They still have 6 games against the Brewers...that just means trouble for the Cubs!!!!!!

ASSIGNMENTWhich team would you most want to see the Cubs face in the first round of the playoffs, and why?
Philadelphia
New York Mets
Los Angeles
Arizona

As a Cubs fan, I'm trying think positive that the they will get to 100 wins, but I'm just not sure it will happen. Being able to only lose 7 of the next 22 will be tough with 6 against the Cards, 6 against the Brewers, 4 in New York, and 3 at Houston. The 'Stros have just a been that weak team that just won't leave us alone (6-9 on the year agaisnt them). Even if they don't get to 100, I still see them holding onto the central, despite Big Z having rotator cuff tendinitis (let him rest until the Brewers series). It will be a bumpy road but the cushion is still there. With 6 against the Brewers (Cubs will take at least 4, and winning the final series at Wrigley North) and the Brewers having 4 in Philadelphia, they just won't have enough to make up the gap. And they ARE NOT choking Cabalka. It was simply a rough week. Philly is fighting for their lives and the Astros are just a headache. Veterans will get them through this. The Brewers last year were just too young and combusted. That won't happen in Chicago!
